I turned 30 a month ago today. This means I am now in the age where Timothy started his ministry. This is also the age where I started my ministry as a full time pastor here in GKIN Arnhem/Nijmegen and GKIN Tilburg. It gives me great joy to know that Jesus also started his ministry at the age of 30 – however I would like to give more than 3 years in my ministry ;).
Mom and dad came for the occasion. I invited them to come and see the people that I am going to serve. We went to some places and they were really happy to see the result of the ministry.
There was no real party for the birthday. I talked to Dorta in the evening before the birthday, prayed. My parents and I prayed early in the morning, went to Schiphol to say goodbye to Bea, went to see my prof and had lunch, went to a dinner with Tante Tina and Oom Lutzen, and that’s it. No cake. However, there was a surprise mini-party at the end of the week organized by Tante Tina.
Being 30 is like coming into a new stage in life. I have to make choices. And I think I choose to learn to serve the Lord in my new ministry. I want to learn real life from real people and not from text books. I want to experience real conflicts and boy do I get what I wanted ;). I am really enjoying my new life here in Arnhem. I live in my own flat with Norman, nearby aldi and mini winkelcentrum, has to drive a lot, a full freezer, and morning’s nespresso, what else? The only thing that is missing is being so far away from the person I love. Oh…and drumming, I miss drumming.
If I could describe my experiences of the first three months, then they are: fun, enjoyable, trust, lots of travels, hungry for God’s words, food, smiles, cries, patient, anger, conflicts, teamwork, schedule, creativity, management, and honesty. For me, this experience will teach me to grow more. I love being with the congregation. I think it’s like a hobby ;).
I hope I can finish my thesis as soon as possible, which is my biggest desire and hope at the moment. That was the only wish I made for my birthday.
