List Of World’s Richest People 2009

Forbes has published a list of world’s richest people. Indonesia has 5 representatives in the list of 793, among them is Sukanto Tanoto, owner of paper, construction and palm oil industies under the Garuda Mas Group at number 450, who founded the Tanoto Foundation, the main financial supporter of my study in the Netherlands.

The richest person is still Bill Gates the Microsoft founder and former Microsoft Corp boss. The richest Asian Mukesh Ambani, who’s running the family petrochemical business, is sitting at number 7 with net worth US$ 19,5 billion, followed by his fellow countrymen Lakhsmi Mittal with US$ 19,3 billion. Sergey Brin (age 35 and sitting at #26), google co-founder, is the youngest top 100 billionaire with net worth US$ 12 billion.

The richest Dutch is Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken (age 54 at #108) who inherits 25% of the famous Heineken brewery shares from her family.

Michael and Budi Hartono are the richest Indonesian, sitting jointly at number 430 with net worth US$ 1,7 billion. They both own clove cigarette company PT Djarum, shares of Indonesia largest bank BCA, Grand Indonesia shopping mall. There is also a Batak person on the list, Martua Sitorus, owner of palm oil company Wilmar International Group, in 522nd place with US$1.4 billion in wealth. The last Indonesian on the list is Peter Sondakh, with US$1 billion in interests in the telecommunications, retail and hotel businesses.
